Roofing: Re-using and renewing
Team Fidler preserved the clay tile roofing in a historic Kansas City neighborhood so it could be re-set after repairs.
FIDLER ON THE ROOF KC DETACHED A HOME’S SPANISH CLAY TILES, SEALED THE ROOF, THEN RE-ATTACHED THE ORIGINAL ROOFING.
It’s always gratifying to re-use and renew, especially in neighborhoods that value historic preservation. Water had penetrated the roof of this vintage home in Kansas City’s Coleman Highlands neighborhood (circa 1908) near Roanoke Park. The Ludowici clay tiles were in excellent condition, but the roof’s underlayment had deteriorated. Our team painstakingly removed each tile individually and repositioned them around the roof so they could be re-attached. Fidler then installed Owens Corning’s Titanium PSU30 waterproof barrier. Mortar was applied on ridges and valleys to enhance water resistance. We also installed new copper flashings and used copper nails to retain the roof’s historic style. Once everything was sealed, the tiles were re-attached.

About Titanium PSU30 underlayment
Owens Corning’s Titanium PSU 30 underlayment helps create a waterproof barrier between the elements and a home’s interior. It can be applied beneath surfaces including metal, tile, shake, slate, asphalt and synthetic shingles. This membrane was engineered for extra protection on steep roofs subject to driving rain and ice dams.
