Fidler on the Roof vs. “Fiddler on the Roof”
We’re Fidlers, not fiddlers. But you’re welcome to call us whatever you like!
If you search for Fidler on the Roof KC on the internet, it’s likely to suggest an alternative spelling of our name. We take no offense. It’s just that we were born Fidlers, not fiddlers. We’re roofers, not instrumentalists (though at present our team does include a mandolin player).
“Fiddler on the Roof” is a renowned musical composed by Jerry Brock, premiering on Broadway in 1964. It won nine Tony Awards, has been turned into a movie and has made a profound cultural impact. Its famous songs include “Tradition,” “Matchmaker, Matchmaker,” “If I Were a Rich Man,” and “Sunrise, Sunset.”
Our name, “Fidler,” may be an Americanized version of “Fiddler” or the German “Fiedler” – all of which refer to players of stringed instruments. We hope this doesn’t disappoint, but this talent has not reproduced itself genetically. You won’t find us playing a fiddle on rooftops as we repair leaks (but that would indeed set us apart!). However, like our forefathers, we do work with our hands. It’s just that our instruments are concrete saws, hammers, thermal imaging monitors and copper-shaping machinery.
We can also claim some affinity with the musical:
Our “Tradition” is to be fair, honest and reliable.
We’re “Matchmakers”
How? We connect quality roofing products and excellent service with homeowners and businesses in search of a stylish, waterproof roof.
We work from sunrise to sunset
rich men we aren’t
Even though we aren’t rich men, we build “a fine roof … right in the middle of town” (per the lyrics).
Maybe someday we’ll employ a fiddler to soothe our hardworking team of roofers or to bring peace to the neighborhood. But for now, we’re happy to be Fidlers, renewing, repairing and replacing roofs in Greater Kansas City and beyond.
