Stone-coated steel: An elegant alternative to stone, slate or tile roofing
Can you have the aesthetic appeal and durability of a stone roof without the stone? Absolutely.
A Jackson County, Mo., client recently chose stone-coated steel for her roof. What are these tiles made of? A stone finish is permanently adhered to a metal base. It makes an excellent roof for homes that want the look of a stone or tile surface but are not structurally engineered to support the weight. Stone-coated steel roofing is also manufactured in wood-shake style.
Benefits of stone-coated steel roofing
It can be used on any home and has no structural requirements. Actual stone-based products, such as concrete, clay and slate, require a roof to be structurally engineered to support their weight (which can be eight times the weight of stone-coated steel).
A stone-coated steel roof is exceptionally durable. The lifespan of steel roofs is about double that of composition roofs. Most have Class A fire-resistance ratings, the highest level.
Stone-coated steel roofing is low maintenance and energy efficient. Materials can be recycled at the end of the roof’s long life.
Stone-coated steel roofs can be customized to a wide variety of colors and styles and “pop” with curb appeal. This homeowner selected charcoal, but a wide range of options are available.
